Tooth Extractions in Tampa
There are several reasons why you and Dr. Valiente may decide that a tooth extraction is necessary. Teeth may need to be removed due to severe decay, advanced periodontal (goma de mascar) enfermedad, or damage that cannot be repaired. En algunos casos, teeth are extracted because they are poorly positioned in the mouth—tales como dientes impactados—or to prepare for orthodontic treatment.
While extractions are sometimes essential, removing a tooth can affect your bite, chewing ability, jaw joint function, and overall dental alignment. These changes can significantly impact your long-term oral health.
To help prevent these issues, Dr. Valiente will review alternative treatment options whenever possible and will also discuss tooth replacement solutions following an extraction.
What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction
Before the procedure, Dr. Valiente will numb the tooth, surrounding gum tissue, and jawbone with a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort.
You will feel pressure during the extraction as the tooth is gently rocked to widen the socket. Although you won’t feel pain due to the anesthetic blocking pain signals, the nerves that detect pressure are still active. If you experience any pain during the procedure, please let us know immediately so we can address it.
Sectioning a Toot h
En algunos casos, a tooth may need to be sectioned to facilitate removal. This common technique is used when a tooth is firmly anchored in the socket or has curved roots. The doctor will divide the tooth into smaller sections and remove them one at a time to minimize stress on the surrounding bone.
