Wisdom Teeth Tampa FL
What are wisdom teeth?
We get three sets of molars during our lifetime, and the first arrive around the age of six. The second come in around the age of 12. We develop the third molars, also known as wisdom teeth, during our late teens or early twenties. Since third molars come in when we become wiser as we transition into adulthood, they are called wisdom teeth.
Ditch the discomfort! Schedule your wisdom tooth extraction today for a pain-free smile.

Why do wisdom teeth need to be removed?
Our mouths were designed to hold 28 teeth, and by the time our wisdom teeth start to come in, those 28 slots are already filled, making it difficult for an additional 4 wisdom teeth to erupt properly. As a result, 90% of people have at least one impacted wisdom tooth that requires extraction. Another reason wisdom teeth need to be removed is that even if they come in properly positioned, they are still highly susceptible to infection, cavities and are at risk of developing cysts and tumors.
What does it mean if a tooth is impacted?
Impacted wisdom teeth are not able to fully erupt through the gums. It is a very common condition when it comes to wisdom teeth, and it is the number one reason why wisdom teeth need to be removed. Most of us have at least one impacted wisdom tooth.
When is a good time for wisdom teeth removal?
Does it seem like teens and young adults all appear to be getting their wisdom teeth removed? That’s because there is an optimal (yet fleeting) opportunity between the ages of 17-21 when the tooth roots haven’t fully formed yet. Once the roots have developed, the risk of damaging nearby nerves, bones, and teeth is significantly higher. So, schedule an appointment to have them removed before there are complications.
Does everyone need to get his or her wisdom teeth removed?
There are those very rare cases when patients don’t need to have their wisdom teeth removed. From time to time, we see a patient whose wisdom teeth appear to have fit nicely in the mouth and don’t need removal. However, these patients’ wisdom teeth are still prone to disease and cavities, and must be monitored for life.
Do all four teeth have to be pulled?
We assess each patient’s oral health thoroughly as we determine the best course of action for each unique case. Sometimes only one or two third molars need to be removed.
Schedule a consultation with us, so that Dr. Valiente can perform an oral evaluation, which includes x-rays to see the position of the teeth below the gums and help you determine which, if any, of your wisdom teeth need to be removed. He will also discuss options for anesthesia so that you have the best possible outcome.
